Official 7″ Touchscreen Display Available for the Raspberry Pi

The long awaited official touchscreen for the Raspberry Pi is finally here – and it was worth the wait. The Raspberry Pi foundation managed to produce a quality 7″ touchscreen display with good specifications at an impressive low MSRP of only 60$. You can buy the display right here.

The new display connects to the Raspberry Pi using the display port (via a DSI interface), leaving the HDMI interface free if you want to add an additional display to your project. Its a 800×480 display with a 10 point capacity touch screen.

The display, produced by Inelco Hunter, boosts the following specifications:

  • RGB 800×480 display @60fps
  • 24-bit colour
  • FT5406 10 point capacitive touchscreen
  • Screen Dimensions: 194mm x 110mm x 20mm (including standoffs)
  • Viewable screen size: 155mm x 86mm
  • 70 degree viewing angle
  • Metal-backed display with mounting holes for the Pi

The screen includes a converter board that drives and powers the display. The display can either be powered by the Pi using GPIO connectors, or via a separate USB power supply.  If you choose to use a separate power supply with must be a 500mA or higher like this.
